A pentathlon full of personal bests. Nataša Masárová makes a major step forward at the Slovak Championships
Five events in a single day and a chance to compete against the country's leading U14 athletes. Nataša Masárová represented ŠK Jablonica at the Slovak Combined Events Championships in Skalica and left with a significant personal improvement – a new pentathlon best and four individual PBs.
On Saturday, 19 September, Skalica hosted the Slovak U14 Combined Events Championships. The girls' pentathlon consisted of the 60 m hurdles, cricket ball throw, 60 m, long jump and the final 600 m.
Nataša Masárová represented ŠK Jablonica in a demanding full-day competition. The 12-year-old entered the championships with a previous pentathlon best of 1,596 points. She finished the day with 1,891 points – an improvement of 295 points – to take 34th place among 57 competitors.
The individual performances tell an even stronger story. Nataša set new personal bests in the 60 m with 9.74, 60 m hurdles with 12.13, cricket ball throw with 34.84 m, and long jump with 3.66 m. Only the final 600 m, completed in 1:53.51, fell just short of her existing 1:51.29 PB.
That is precisely what makes combined events so demanding. Success cannot depend on one discipline alone – an athlete has to handle sprinting, hurdles, jumping, throwing and middle-distance running over the course of the same competition.
For the young ŠK Jablonica athlete, the most important number from Skalica is therefore not simply 34th place. It is the progress behind it: four individual PBs and a 295-point improvement in the pentathlon.
1,891 points and a new personal best. Another step forward for Nataša and valuable experience gained at the Slovak Championships.
