Headlamp on and into the Šaštín forests. Miroslav Ochotnický finishes second in his category
Running through a forest is one thing. Heading into the woods after dark with only a headlamp to show the way is a completely different experience. That was exactly what awaited the runners at the sixth edition of Night run Šaštínskymi bormi on Saturday, 24 October – with ŠK Jablonica represented on the start line as well.
Miroslav Ochotnický took on the shorter race at the Gazárka recreational area in Šaštín-Stráže and finished second in the men's 40+ category.
Racing after dark
Night run Šaštínskymi bormi is a race where the finishing time tells only part of the story.
The main programme started at 7 p.m., after darkness had already fallen. The course led predominantly through the forest on a mixture of forest and asphalt roads, with organisers requiring every runner to carry a working headlamp.
Instead of an athletics track or illuminated city streets, the runners faced darkness, forest trails and the narrow beam of their headlamps showing them the way ahead.
The event was also part of the Moravian-Slovak Running Cup and Grand Prix Záhorie series.
Second place in the M40 category
This time, Miroslav Ochotnický was the athlete carrying the ŠK Jablonica colours into the race.
He completed the shorter course in 34:04.1, placing 51st overall in the official results. His age-category result was considerably stronger – Miroslav finished second among men over 40.
It was also another race in quick succession for him. Only one week earlier, he had represented ŠK Jablonica at the Po buránsky forest race in Borský Mikuláš.
This time, however, the autumn daylight and cross-country setting were replaced by something very different: a night race through the Šaštín forests.
Running for a good cause
The sixth Night run Šaštínskymi bormi was about more than competition.
Under the message "We run for a good cause", the event also supported three children – Emmka, Ľubko and Charlottka. The programme included an afternoon forest walk for families, with voluntary contributions helping to support them.
Sport, the unusual atmosphere of a night-time forest and the opportunity to help others therefore came together during one special evening.
And among the headlamps shining through the Šaštín forests, the colours of ŠK Jablonica were there too.
Congratulations to Miro on second place in his category and another race completed in ŠK Jablonica colours!
