Some races are about more than the finishing time. On Sunday, 27 September, Miroslav Ochotnický lined up for the 130th edition of the legendary Běchovice–Prague race, representing ŠK Jablonica over ten kilometres in one of Europe's most historic running events.

Běchovice–Prague is no ordinary 10K. The first edition took place on 27 May 1897, and according to the organisers it is the oldest continuously held running race in Europe. The jubilee 130th edition combined the Czech 10K Road Championships with a mass public race. bechovice-praha.cz

Among the thousands of runners in the public race was Miroslav Ochotnický, wearing bib number 3301 and representing ŠK Jablonica. He completed the historic ten-kilometre course in 1:03:44, finishing 284th in the men's 40–44 category. bechovice-praha.cz

Miroslav passed the opening kilometre in 5:30, reached 3 km in 16:32 and crossed the halfway point in 29:18. His 7.5 km split was 45:36 before he reached the finish in 1:03:44.

This time, however, the numbers tell only part of the story. The race has been held since 1897 and has become part of Czech athletics history. Even its masters tradition stretches back decades, with veteran categories included in the programme since 1956. bechovice-praha.cz

And when the medal waiting at the finish carries the number 130, completing the race means a little more than another result on a results sheet.

Congratulations, Miro, on completing the legendary Běchovice–Prague and thank you for representing ŠK Jablonica!
