Step by step back. Alex Hulka continues his journey towards racing again
A serious injury kept him away from competition for months, but not from his goal of returning. Alex Hulka has now completed another important stage of his recovery and preparation, spending three weeks at a high-altitude training camp in Font-Romeu, France, where he focused on rebuilding endurance and training volume ahead of his planned return to competition.
Returning from a serious injury does not happen in a single training session or after one successful week. It is a long process of gradually putting training sessions together while respecting what the body allows at each stage of recovery.
Alex Hulka has now taken another significant step on that journey.
During the summer, Alex travelled to Font-Romeu in France for a three-week high-altitude training camp. Together with five other athletes and friends, he trained while staying at approximately 1,700 metres above sea level.
Three weeks of endurance work
The main focus of the camp was rebuilding training volume and endurance. After a period in which injury and rehabilitation significantly affected Alex's sporting journey, Font-Romeu represented another important stage in his return to a full training programme.
The athletes had excellent facilities available, including an athletics track, fully equipped gym and swimming pool. Cycling sessions were also occasionally incorporated into the training programme.
The environment was only part of the experience. Alex spent the three weeks training alongside five other athletes and friends.
"We were a really good group. I enjoyed it a lot and I'm grateful for this opportunity and such a great experience," Alex says about the camp.
Racing is the next target
Font-Romeu was not the destination. It was another step towards what comes next.
Following this period of endurance and volume training, Alex is targeting road races during the second part of the season, followed later by the Slovak Cross Country Championships.
After a serious injury, being able to complete a three-week high-altitude training camp is already an important milestone. Even more significant is the fact that Alex can once again look beyond rehabilitation towards training, competition and new sporting goals.
He also acknowledges those who have supported him throughout the process:
"I would like to thank all the coaches and especially ŠK Jablonica for their support."
Alex, we are behind you. The comeback continues – step by step, session by session.
